Inspired by the guys on Spica I put together an assault lander similar in concept to the Divine Wind Combat Lander (@ TL15) in Rats & Cats.
Due to the way the Spica Project was twisting and turning we never really settled on a set of rules to stick to for vehicle design (well we did but not until I'd put together several designs and was getting bored of swapping systems). So this bad boy comes in TNE, MT and T20 variants.
The design concept was a 6 ton Grav vehicle designed at Tech D/E (again some argument remains as to the Solomani tech level in 990- if you use invasion Earth as a basis you'll find it will be TL E but T20 assumes TL D).
The Solomani confederation C431 Glory Combat Lander was the first non Imperial design adopted by the Confederation Marines in 978. It was adapted from the Knobel (Alpha Crucis 2805) design as used by their Sternjäger Korps. The Sternjäger formed a significant portion of the Confederation Marines Force cadre in the early days of its formation.
The Glory is a Tech D design and is a good example of the Solomani use of G Vehicles as airmobile and air support units as opposed to armoured units (still preferring to use tracked or air-cushion vehicles for heavy armour and troop transport).
Typical deployment is of a company consisting of 10 Glory Combat Landers and 6 Pride Gunships in support. The company can assault directly from orbit but the 500 ton Kingston Assault Boat is the preferred method of transport from orbit to low altitude.
Although carrying a reasonable armament of a VRF Gauss gun and RPA gun in a chin turret and fixed forward mount respectively it is easily outgunned and armoured by Imperial Marine Grav APCs.
The Glory is not designed for direct engagement with the enemy but rather for the rapid deployment of its 8 man section. This is aided by its belly ramp which can be deployed forward or rear facing depending on the tactical situation. The ramp design also allows it to be lowered as a platform whilst in flight or stationary from which troops may board or fight.
The lander displaces 6 tons, carries a crew of 2 plus 8 fully armed troops.
It is armed with a VRF gauss gun in a remote chin turret.
